Tufts Medicine Pediatrics’ collaboration with Boston Children’s
We are thrilled to share the evolution of pediatrics at Tufts Medical Center and proud to collaborate with Boston Children's Hospital to provide the children of New England with accessible and quality pediatric care. Tufts Medicine Pediatrics and Boston Children's have created a shared comprehensive pediatric care model for Eastern Massachusetts communities in this first-of-its-kind collaboration for both institutions.
Our innovative collaboration boosts our ability to offer specialized pediatric care at Boston Children's Longwood Medical Area campus and across the campuses and practices of Tufts Medicine, including at Tufts Medical Center. Through this model, we will continue delivering extraordinary care closer to our patients’ homes, reducing the need to travel to our Boston specialty care campuses. As part of our efforts to transform primary and specialty care experiences into seamless and coordinated care closer to home, we continue to work closely with community-based pediatric and family medicine clinicians.
We are also proud to announce that our Tufts Triple Board Training program will continue as Boston Children's Hospital – Tufts Medical Center Triple Board Residency Program. The program is committed to psychiatry and pediatric care, combining Pediatrics, Adult Psychiatry, and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry training. “During a national crisis in pediatric mental health, it is critical to enhance the training of physicians who can be leaders in responding to the evolving and complex needs of children and families in the areas of emotional and behavioral health, and who are committed to the advocacy for children and families in the care of psychosocial, emotional and medical needs,” says Tufts Medical Center leadership. With full support from senior leadership at both institutions, this collaboration extends additional resources and opportunities for resident training experiences.
With only 10 Triple Board programs nationally, Tufts Medical Center has proudly held a spot among the original six since 1986. We’re confident that this program will maintain its success rate in attracting top-level candidates and producing leading graduates with diverse career pathways in Pediatrics and Psychiatry at various institutions. Residents currently enrolled, and those recruited for July 2023, will experience a unique five-year training, allowing them to become board eligible in Pediatrics, Adult Psychiatry, and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
Moreover, our trainees and graduates are equipped with the knowledge to provide accessible combined psychiatric and pediatric care during our national pediatric mental health crisis, addressing the needs of children and families in emotional, behavioral and medical health. These graduates are trained to become leaders with expertise in combined psychiatric and pediatric care in an integrated healthcare system. We look forward to continuing to provide exceptional training to residents through this new joint Boston Children's Hospital – Tufts Medical Center Triple Board Residency Program.
